SUEN Coordination Office of “Blue Peace in the Middle East Initiative
With the long-term vision of transforming water from a potential source of crisis into a potential instrument of cooperation and peace through concrete actions, a new structure was has been set up for the Blue Peace in the Middle East Initiative, as a structured and dynamic network of prominent institutions from partner countries in the region.
Under the new stucture, a three-tier process is adopted – the top tier being represented by political leaders influential in the region, second tier being the Managing Committee, that will work towards strengthening the priorities, identify thematic areas of concern and set priorities in the field of water resources, while the third tier to be overall coordinated by the Coordination Office, to support the Managing Committee in the facilitation of envisaged activities.
The new structure of the Blue Peace Initiative will continue to support peace building and collaboration activities in the region under the theme of water use efficiency in agriculture for the first 2 years and contribute to enhance dialogue among countries, water institutions, decision makers and experts.
With the financial support by SUEN and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), SUEN will function as the Coordination Office for the period 2019-2020 and will implement the agricultural water efficiency project together with the regional countries (Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Jordan).
